Huang, founder of the website www.64tianwang.com, is a wireless-electronics graduate of Sichuan University. He is an Internet pioneer in China. The website 64tianwnag was set up to put out news about people who had disappeared in China. He was charged in January 2001 with “subversion” and “incitement to overthrow the government” for allowing articles about the June 1989 Tiananmen massacre to appear on his website. Mr. Huang was awarded the Cyberfreedom Prize by the France-based Reporters without Borders in 2004. After his release in 2005, he continues to promote Internet freedom and human rights in China.
